EPA LEAD CERTIFIED RENOVATOR FOR RENOVATION, REPAIR, AND PAINTING REFRESHER TRAINING 12 STUDENT MAX PER REFRESHER COURSE! 4/16/15 NEW RULING EPA REFRESHER: The Rule was published in the Federal Register on April 16th .Individual renovators who received their initial certification on or before March 31, 2010, now have until March 31, 2016 to get certified. If you received certification between April 1, 2010 and March 31, 2011, will have one year added to your five year certification. Please make sure you understand the implications and requirements needed for you or your firm to comply. Though the extension applies to renovators, it does NOT apply to firm certifications. DO NOT MISS YOUR RENEWAL DEADLINE! If you miss your five-year anniversary eadline to re-certify, you will be required to repeat the 8 hour Initial Certified Renovator course. There are NO exceptions. THE FINES HURT! UP TO $37,500 FOR EACH VIOLATION! Firms who knowingly or willingly violate the RRP Program requirements could result in penalties of up to $10,000 per day, per violation and/or face imprisonment. Renovators have a role to play in preventing lead poisoning. Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting and demolition can create hazardous lead dust with chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to both children and adults. This 6-hour refresher training course, which is required every 5 years, is for individuals who have previously completed the initial Certified Renovator Lead Certification in compliance with the Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule. The training will refresh RRP contractors in how to work safely in housing and child-occupied facilities with lead-based paint and to teach them how to comply with both EPA’s RRP Rule and the Washington State Department of Commerce’s Lead Safe Housing Rule. Participants will learn lead safe work practices and how to work safely and effectively. Students will also review the information that was provided to them in the initial RRP Certified Renovator training course, and be provided with current and up-to-date information regarding regulatory changes, changes in state-of-the-art work practices, as well as other changes to the RRP Certified Renovator discipline. The training focuses on working safely with lead based painted surfaces and topics include: Regulations, Testing for Lead Based Paint, Review of Set-up Practices, Review of Prohibited Practices, Personal Protective Equipment and Dust Control, Cleaning Activities and Checking Your Work, Recordkeeping, Training of Non-Certified Renovators, Review and Test. Students are REQUIRED to show documentation of initial certification, MUST bring your CLR card w/you to class. You will also have your photo taken for the recertification card at the class.
